Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (12-14oz) French bread, sourdough, or challah
  • 8 oz full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2¼ cups whole milk
  • ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar (divided)
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Cut the bread into cubes and layer half in the pan.
  2. In a mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth; mix in confectioners’ sugar and ¼ tsp vanilla. Spoon dollops over the bread layer and top with remaining cubes.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, brown sugar, and remaining vanilla; pour over the bread mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). For the topping, mix remaining brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon; cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the casserole.
  5. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
