  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon MSG (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken by cutting it into 8 pieces.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg, then marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  3. Mix flour and seasonings in another bowl to create the seasoned flour.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or Dutch oven to 350°F.
  5. Dredge marinated chicken pieces in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
  6. Fry in batches for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. Transfer cooked chicken to a warm oven set at 175°F while cooking remaining pieces.
