Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16-ounce) box rotini pasta
  • 34 drops each red & blue liquid food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons water, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
  • 1 pint (about 10 ounces) of cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes (or mozzarella pearls)
  • ¾ cup pepperoni, cut into fourths
  • ½ cup black olives, chopped
  • 1 (16-ounce) bottle of Italian dressing

Instructions

  1. Cook rotini pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  2. In a large Ziploc bag, combine 3–4 drops of red food coloring with 1 tablespoon of water. Seal the bag.
  3. In another bag, add blue food coloring with the remaining tablespoon of water. Seal that bag too.
  4. Separate cooked pasta into 3 equal portions (about 3 cups each).
  5. Place one portion of pasta into the red food coloring bag and seal it. Gently knead until evenly colored.
  6. Repeat with another portion in the blue bag.
  7. If more color is needed, mix an additional drop of food coloring with a tablespoon of water and add it to the appropriate bag until desired color is achieved.
  8. Mix the remaining third portion of noodles with olive or vegetable oil.
  9. In a large bowl, combine all colored pastas along with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, black olives, and Italian dressing. Mix well.
  10. Cover the salad and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
